The Ionian Islands are an emerald scattering of seven main islands –, Ithaca, Corfu, Kefalonia, Lefkada, Paxos and Kythira – found off the west coast of mainland Greece. The region is famed for pristine beaches, the unforgettable blue of the sea, and the lush Mediterranean landscape. Several lesser-known smaller islands make up this paradise cluster.

M/S Hera – our beautiful motorised ocean vessel that can accommodate up to 25 passengers with 9 cabins – operates the Ionian Cruise. We will spend a week at sea, exploring the very best of this island cluster paradise, stopping in Sivota, Parga, Antipaxos, Gaios and Lakka in a round trip from Corfu. Our Ionian Cruise operates with multiple boats, ie Harmonia, Aphrodite, Eros, Agiotis, Panagiota based on departure dates and seasonality.

This trip is best suited for those who want to set sail for discovery, heritage and historical sightseeing, the best of nature and deserted beaches, on-deck sea-view unwinding and the friendly atmosphere of a small ship cruise.

The friendly crew will attend to all your needs along the way. There are freshly prepared meals (Breakfast and Lunch), and all cabins include a private bathroom and air-conditioning.

If you are a group interested to charter our boat for sailing around the Greek Ionian islands email us: groups@sail-ingreece.com. Tailor-made itineraries are also available.

IONIAN ITINERARIES & PRICING

Itinerary Notes

The Ionian Cruise itinerary is subject to change dependent on weather conditions, difficulties at docking or unforeseen circumstances. This decision will be made solely at your captain’s discretion, based on the safety of the group and the ship. Travel insurance is highly recommended before departing for a Greece sailing trip.

When arranging your transportation, such as flights and on-ground transfers, please ensure you give yourself enough time in-between for the arrival and departure from your group.

Departure Day: Mondays (In May, June, July, August, September & October)
Departure Time: 17:00 (Please try and arrive 30 minutes before)
Finish Time: 09:00 (On the following Saturday, docking at Corfu)

Note: It is also possible to finish the trip on Sunday evening, as the vessel will have already arrived in Corfu by then.

Day 1 - Corfu - Kassiopi

As today is the arrival day and we don’t set sail from the Old Port (or NAOK marina) until after sunset, you have plenty of time to explore the wonders of Corfu Island.

The UNESCO World Heritage town of Kerkyra (Corfu Old Town) is full of cultural heritage from its days under Venetian, French and British rule. From architecture to traditions, towering fortresses to the narrow medieval streets, you can feel the multi-layers of Corfu island history.

If you have time to see more of the island, don’t miss the chance to explore the fishing village of Agni Bay, the dramatic cliff drops of Cape Drastis, the picturesque channel of the Canal d’Amour and the tucked-away community of Palaiokastritsa.

In the evening, we get acquainted with our sailing home for the next few days and get settled in, starting by dining with a view of the ocean as we set sail towards Kassiopi.

Note: On the rare occasion of any issues that may result from late arrivals, there is a possibility that we do not depart Corfu on Monday evening, and instead set sail on Tuesday morning.

Day 2 - Sivota - Mourtos

The rainfall on the Ionian Islands is what enables its lush and verdant landscapes to flourish. Think of thick forests, natural coves, green hills with olive groves, and ardent valleys that sit back-to-back with crystal clear waters and sparkling white beaches.

You can find this in the Mourtos and Sivota Islands, south of Corfu, where we sail and stop to marvel at some of the island best natural highlights. This includes the striking Papanikolis Cave and the famed Blue Lagoon Bay, where you can swim in the iridescent blue waters.

In the evening, stroll the traditional Marina village and take your pick of Greek eats from the idyllic tavern-lined promenade, where you can watch the sunset.

  Syvota Cooking Class

Day 3 - Parga

Nestled on the Ionian coastline of the Greece Mainland, Parga has been described as one of the region’s most beautiful villages. This is because of its two crystal clear bays that line either side of its main town and the iconic Venetian fortress that forms an impressive backdrop.

Known for its stunning natural environment that gives it an island feel, there are plenty of beachside hangouts and watersports to enjoy the coastline views, especially in the large bay west of Parga town. We will have lunch onboard, but stay in town for an evening of Greek feasting and hospitality.

Note: If the vessel manages to dock in the port, you will not need to use a water taxi. However, if you need one, the cost of the Water Taxi is not included in the overall price package.

Day 4 - Antipaxos

Not many people know of Antipaxos, overshadowed by the main island of Paxos, but you will be glad you got to experience this lesser-known beauty spot.

First, we fuel up with a lunch before stopping for some coastal relaxation time at some of the islands secluded, tranquil bays that are home to the beaches of Voutoumi and Vrika.

Go snorkelling in the turquoise waters, feel the pebbles under your feet, take a walk amongst the clifftop surroundings and visit one of the three main towns – Gaios, Loggos and Lakka.

We will dine at a pop-up beach tavern in a secluded bay tucked away from the crowds, and later watch the stars from the deck of the yacht.

Day 5 - Gaios - Paxos

With white pebble beaches, striking blue seas and lush green countryside, Paxos is one of Greece’s best-kept secrets. We will dock at the port of Gaios ready for a full day on the island.

You can easily explore with a motorcycle, although it’s also easy by foot, bike or car too. Spend the day seeking out the secluded coves and bays for swimming, enjoy the Venetian architecture of Gaios town or sample the world-renowned olive oil from the surrounding groves.

Watch the fisherman go about their work from one of the seafront cafes, before enjoying some of the best and freshest seafood at one of the excellent local tavernas that stock the best catch of the day.

Day 6 - Lakka - Paxos

Dotted with secluded bays and sea caves, with shallow waters for those keen to explore the underworld of the Ionian Sea, this part of Paxos Island is an explorer’s dream.

Enjoy lunch on the vessel while we sail towards bustling Lakka, the second largest village on the island set in a horseshoe bay to a backdrop of olive and cypresses trees. Visit the pebbled Kanoni beach and sandy Harami beach and wander amongst nature.

Later, stroll the vibrant promenade along the seafront. Full of bars and tavernas Lakka is the epitome of old school Greek charm. We will dock overnight at a picturesque bay here.

Note: The vessel cannot dock in the marina in this area.

  Captains evening dinner

Day 7 - Corfu

Before we head back to the mainland of Corfu Island, with free time to explore, we take the chance to fit in one more of Corfu’s long sandy beaches. We visit the beautiful Benitses Beach and village on the east coast of the island, enjoying an onboard lunch on the way for some final sweeping sea views.

We spend the night in the Marina of Corfu Old Town, where we enjoy an optional traditional dinner with the group in our final farewell party.

Day 8 - Departure Day

As we come back in full circle to Corfu, this is our departure day, where
you’ll say goodbye to your new friends and your crew. Hopefully, we have inspired you with this Greece sailing trip and hope to see you next year for more sailing around the Greek islands.

What are the IONIAN cruises?

IONIAN cruises are island hopping tours ideal for independent like-minded travelers. You will explore the most famous islands in the world, the Greek islands.

When they depart?

They depart From Corfu every Monday at 6pm, from June  till end of September . For specific dates see our calendar.

What time does the cruise finish?

The cruise finishes every Monday at 09:00 after breakfast.

I was thinking of joining the “usual island hopping tours” with the public ferries?

Do you prefer exploring the Greek islands, traveling for hours with other thousands of people, getting queued to embark on the public boats, waking up at crazy hours to be on time, carrying your bags everywhere, changing from hotel to hotel, rather than travel with your private boat, having your own bed from day 1 to day 8 with no movements, exploring beaches and hidden gems of the Ionian sea and still have the same fun with your friends?

How are the cabins on the boat?

Our cabins are double/twins, triples. All the cabins are en-suite with a/c. If you want to be in the same cabin with your friends just write that on the comments while booking. We can not guarantee that you will be together, but we will make everything possible to fulfil your will! Please keep in kind that we provide 1 set of fresh linen and towels for the week.

I am traveling SOLO, is there any single supplement?

There is no need for single supplement and that is the idea of our cruises. Independent people come alone, travel with like-minded people and at the end become friends. You will share the cabin with other fellow travelers of the same gender.

Are the islands we visit expensive?

In general, in the Greek islands you can find cheap food and drinks everywhere. You can eat from 1 “souvlaki” that costs only 2 euros and Greeks eat it as a meal or a proper meal at a restaurant that costs around 8 – 15 € p.p. Drinks cost from 5 – 10 € for cocktails.

Is water included on board?

Water is NOT included on board. If you want extra, we offer a 1.5 lt (natural mineral water) bottle for just 1,5 €.

Is local transportation included?

When we are on the islands, any mean of local transportation, such as local buses, taxis, water taxis, are not included. However the cost is minimal and varies between 2 to 5 euros at a time. Average cost for a week will be 20 – 30 € p.p.

When i get to charge my phone or laptop?

You are able to charge phones, laptop etc when the boat is sailing or when it is docked at ports which provide electricity.

When do i get to shower?

You are able to have a shower anytime of the day but keep in mind that when the boat is docked at a port and the engines are turned off the flow is reduced and there is not hot water.

What food is included?

Your cruise includes Buffet breakfast daily and lunch meal daily and Captain’s Dinner on the last night . The breakfast consists of  bread, butter, jam, honey, yogurt, cereal, coffee, tea, orange juice, milk and cake.

Is there any vegetarian option?

We do respect the preference of vegetarian food only, however we do not cook special meals for individuals. You are more than welcome to bring your food on board.

Can I bring my own food and drinks on board?

As we use to say here, we are like a hotel in the water. So, yes feel free to bring any personal food or drinks you want on board. Our idea is to support your budget and travel cheaper. Please keep in mind that is not allowed to consume food and drinks inside our cabins and also there is no communal fridge that can be used for storage.

Do I need travel insurance?

Adventure traveling requires travel insurance and we strongly recommend purchasing one. Please see more details in our travel insurance section.

Do you actually sail?

The type of our boats is motor sailors. The difference is that these boats have motor, which gives them the advantage to reach more islands than just sailing. From time to time, if the wind is strong enough we use the sails also.

Do the boats have plugs?

All our fleet has European plugs inside.

What nationalities are on board?

We have travelers from all over the world and we are more than happy to see the diversity on board. However, our main ones are from Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Canada , America and Italy. SO, mainly English speaking.

How I arrange my visa and passport details

In order to get all the necessary updated information about the Visa and passport requirements please check our information on the visa and passport section.

The crew on the boat speaks English?

In order to support the local community and give back to our people, all our boats have multinational crew members and English speaking.

What is the maximum capacity of the boats?

Our boats can carry up to 25 passengers. Keep in mind that all our boats have fair space for the number of people they carry.

Can I be sure that I am on the same boat like my friends?

At the time of booking please specify who are your friends and even if we will try to make the necessary arrangements to put you on the same boat, we can not guarantee that.

Can I leave the sailing tour earlier than planned?

Even if we believe that is impossible someone to want to “escape” from our sailing boat, you are free to leave and end the tour at any time we dock to a different island. If you need any travel support from there, email us at the time of booking and we will plan the best feasible solution for you.

What happens if I miss my departure?

At the unlike event of losing your departure time, you have the option to catch us on the next island via the public ferries which especially in high season, they have many connections every day. In any case we provide you with an emergency phone number which you can use to support you. (emergency phone: +30 693 994 3066 Koulito)

Can I meet my travelers prior to the departure?

As personal privacy is of paramount importance to us, we cannot provide you in advance your fellow travelers’ details. However if you are interested to meet other people that travel on the same tour like you, go to our facebook forum and introduce yourself to other travelers.
